The draft law, spearheaded by Olivier Serva, an independent deputy representing Guadeloupe, has received widespread support for addressing the suffering caused by hair discrimination, particularly among women of African descent who often face pressure to alter their hairstyles for job interviews.

Olivier Serva expressed his excitement, labeling the day as historic. France became the first country to introduce comprehensive legislation specifically targeting Afro-hair discrimination in both professional and public spheres. The bill’s approval in the lower house, with an overwhelming majority of 44 legislators in favor and only two against, reflects the growing recognition of the need to address this issue.

Supporters of the measure emphasize its significance in breaking down barriers of discrimination.
